Obituary for Wayne V. Johnston

WAYNE V. JOHNSTON
FORT FAIRFIELD

Fort Fairfield – Wayne V. Johnston, 71, husband of Penny (Devine) Johnston, passed away Easter Sunday evening, March 27, 2016 at a Presque Isle healthcare facility, following an extended illness. He was born January 28, 1945 in Fort Fairfield, the son of Loomis G. and Vera E. (Goodwin) Johnston.

He was a graduate of the Fort Fairfield High School, Class of 1963 and farmed with his father Loomis on the Strickland Road in Fort Fairfield for a number of years. He later became employed by the Fort Fairfield Police Department where he worked for over 25 years, retiring from the Northern Maine Community College as a campus security officer. He was a member of the U.S. Horse Trotting Association and greatly enjoyed harness racing, hunting and fishing, but most especially his grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his father, Loomis G. Johnston; one brother, Keith H. Johnston; and is survived by his wife of thirty-six years, Penny Johnston of Fort Fairfield; his mother, Vera E. Johnston of Mars Hill; two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard W. and Kerry Johnston of York, Christopher W. and Kelley Johnston of Presque Isle; one daughter and son-in-law, Angela and Marc Thibeau of Stratham, NH; four grandchildren, Heather Thibeau of Stratham, NH, Kelsey Johnston, Riley Johnston, both of York, Colton Johnston of Presque Isle.

In keeping with Wayne’s wishes, there will be no calling hours. A graveside service will take place at a later date and will be announced by the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may contribute in memory of Mr. Johnston to the Carl Robert Dream Foundation, 304 North Caribou Road, Fort Fairfield, Maine 04742.
