Limestone & Sinclair – Michael L. Cyr, 87, husband of Eleanor J. (Willey) Cyr, passed away peacefully Thursday March 14, 2024 at a Fort Kent nursing home, following an extended illness. He was born August 25, 1936 in Limestone, the son of Louis E. and Kathleen (Keefe) Cyr.

Mike was a graduate of the Limestone High School, Class of 1954 and went on the further his education at the University of Maine at Orono, earning a B.S. Degree in Education with a major in Government and History. He was married to Eleanor J. Willey on September 22, 1958 and served in the Army National Guard for several years. Mike had been employed by the Fort Fairfield School System as a High School Educator, where he taught U.S. Government and Problems of Democracy for most of his career. He also coached the Fort Fairfield Track and Cross Country Teams for many years. He was a member of both the National and Maine Teachers Associations and greatly enjoyed the outdoors, carpentry, woodworking and maintaining an impeccable lawn wherever he lived.

In addition to his parents, Mike was predeceased by three brothers, Conard K., Thomas L. and Daniel P. Cyr; one sister, Marilyn A. Cyr; and special canine companions, Midgie, Buffy and Tina. He is survived by his wife of more than 65 years, Eleanor J. Cyr of Sinclair; and was a special uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Mike’s family wishes to extended their sincere gratitude to the staff of Forest Hill Nursing Home for the wonderful and compassionate care provided to him during his stay.

A private graveside service will be conducted later in the spring at the St. Louis Catholic Cemetery, Limestone. Those who wish may contribute in memory of Mr. Cyr to the charity or organization of one’s choice.
