Obituary for Wendy L. Ross (Nett)

WENDY L. ROSS
FORT FAIRFIELD

Fort Fairfield - Wendy Lynne Ross, died peacefully on March 14, 2024 at the Aroostook House of Comfort in Presque Isle. She was born in Summit, New Jersey to Bruce and Sally (Gerdron) Nett on June 14, 1951.

In her childhood she spent many summers and Christmases with her parents, sister, and grandparents at “the farm” in Vermont, which she often recalled as some of her best memories. She traveled abroad opportunistically with her father (a photographer for Pan Am), seeing historical sites in Italy or “just going for a shaved ice before coming home”. She was a graduate of Kents Hill School in Readfield.

Following graduation, she had a brief stint as a flight attendant on Overseas National Airline prior to beginning a career as an X-ray technologist at St Joseph’s Hospital in Bangor. She married her husband Milton Ross in 1976, and they settled in Fort Fairfield, where she worked as an X-ray technician at the local clinic. She later attended the University of Maine where she received both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Education, and was a doctoral candidate in Educational Leadership. She enjoyed a lengthy and varied career in education, working as a teacher in Fort Fairfield Elementary School, was the Principal of the former New Sweden School, developed the 21st Century after school program in Washburn, and worked for many years as an Adjunct and eventually Assistant Professor of Education at the University of Maine at Presque Isle prior to retirement. She took particular interest in the training of new teachers and making math learning fun. It was her friends and family, however, that brought her the most joy.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Milton E Ross, Jr.; and her 3 children and their families, Daniel Ross and his wife Sue Lee Ross of Bucksport, ME, and their daughter Mikayla Ross; Nathan and his wife Nickol Ross of Ely, IA, and their son Henry Ross; and Caitlin Pike and her husband Timothy Pike of Brisbane, QLD, Australia. She was preceded in death by both her parents and her much loved sister Nancy Nett.

In keeping with Wendy’s wishes, there will be no services at this time. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may contribute in memory of Wendy to the Aroostook House of Comfort, P.O. Box 867, Presque Isle, Maine 04769 or via their website www.aroostookhouseofcomfort.org . Arrangements have been entrusted to the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield. Online condolences may be expressed at www.gibersondorseyfuneralhome.com .
