He grew up in Fort Fairfield and was on the FFHS baseball and ski jumping teams. He was predeceased by his son, John (2004), and by his wife of 69 years, Mona (Gallupe) (2018).

He took great pride in maintaining and adding to the Elm Street family home, even after becoming an Ocala, FL, snowbird. A Fort Fairfield Rifle & Pistol Club member, he was an avid marksman with pistol and rifle. Throughout his life, he enjoyed many aspects of flight, including soloing in just five hours, earning his private pilot’s license, performing aerobatics with only twenty hours of training, flying RC aircraft, and even skydiving at age 77.
