Mapleton & Fort Fairfield – Larry A. Young, 73, passed away Sunday morning, November 5, 2023 at the Aroostook House of Comfort, Presque Isle, following a brief illness. He was born December 28, 1949 in Rockville, the son of Louie and Beryl G. (Giggey) Young.

He was a graduate of the Fort Fairfield High School, Class of 1968 and served his country with the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam Conflict, earning several decorations, including the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, Combat Action Ribbon, and a Purple Heart for wounds sustained in combat. Following his military discharge, Larry worked for many years in the construction field. Larry loved riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle and was out on his bike the minute the snow cleared. He dearly loved his dogs, and had great regard for the love and companionship dogs can bring to life.

In addition to his parents, Larry was predeceased by four brothers, Craig Young Sr., William “Bill” Young, Samuel Chapman, Darrell Chapman; one stepbrother, Johnny Chapman; one sister, Annette “Mickey” Craddock. He is survived by his three children, Ryan Young, Sarah Young, Ashley Young; two; sisters, Brenda Chapman, and June Chapman. Larry leaves behind many great friends, particularly Laverne Green, who was by Larry's side throughout his time in hospice care.

A private graveside service with military honors will take place at a later date at the Northern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Caribou.
