Scarborough – Gordon Richard Wathen, 59 of Scarborough went into the loving arms of his Lord Jesus on September 20, 2023, after a long illness. The son of Lynn Lenora (Fulton) Wathen and Glendon Richard Wathen, he was born on January 3, 1964, in Fort Fairfield, Maine and was preceded in death by his parents.

Gordon grew up on a farm in Fort Fairfield, Maine where 3 generations of his family had lived beginning with his Great Grandfather in the 1890’s. Gordon and his two older sisters worked for their Dad on the potato farm from a young age picking potatoes in harvest every year until they were old enough to work on the big farm equipment. They also helped weed their families large vegetable garden, picked blueberries, and gathered eggs. Gordon and his sisters enjoyed summers at Cross Lake, Maine sailing, swimming, and waterskiing and had lots of adventures in the winter downhill skiing and snowmobiling on the frozen lakes and winter trails.

Gordon graduated with honors from Oral Roberts University in 1986 with a double major in Computer Science and Business. He began his career at Electronic Data Systems (EDS) in 1986 and distinguished himself as a gifted programmer and instructor. Gordon always looked for adventure and enjoyed scuba diving, snow skiing, running and water skiing. In l986 he married Amy Pike, also a graduate from ORU, and they returned to Fort Fairfield, Maine in l989 to help run the family farm with Gordon’s dad. In 1997 the farm was sold, and Amy and Gordon moved to Iowa to work as the Director of Technology for the local school districts. Gordon returned to Maine in 2013. Gordon had a deep faith in Jesus Christ and demonstrated grace and love and extended kindness and caring to those he encountered. He loved to laugh and will be remembered for the loud “Woohoo” he exclaimed when he was excited.
