Limestone & Fort Fairfield - Stephen A. Poitras, 79, husband of Christine M. (O'Neal) Poitras, passed away unexpectedly Friday evening, August 18, 2023 at his Fort Fairfield home. He was born May 15, 1944 in Caribou, the son of Albert G. and Dorothy M. (Langley) Poitras.

Stephen was a graduate of the Limestone High School, Class of 1962 and was married to Christine M. O'Neal on December 27, 1963. Stephen served his country with the United States Army, attaining the rank of Sergeant and was stationed in Germany. He furthered his education at the University of Southern Maine where he received a bachelor's degree in Business Administration and later attended the Northern Maine Vocational and Technical Institute, Presque Isle, earning his certification as a Master Electrician. Stephen enjoyed a long and rewarding career with Sylvania, Bangor, Measurex, Portland, and worked at The Aroostook Medical Center, Presque Isle, as plant manager and retired from there as Vice President of Administration in 2011. Stephen generously volunteered his time with many civic, church, and business organizations over the years, including as Vice President of the Full Gospel Businessmen, and the Board of Directors of Aroostook Area Agency on Aging. Steve had a love for life and for his family and friends. Whatever he did, it was with excellence. He always was one to encourage and share words of wisdom. He will be greatly missed.

In addition to his parents, Stephen was predeceased by one sister, Linda Langley. He is survived by his wife of nearly sixty years, Christine M. Poitras of Fort Fairfield; three sons, Mark Poitras and his wife Cheryl of Gorham, Scott Poitras and his fiancé, Karen Hartley, Kenneth Poitras and his wife Robin, all of Fort Fairfield; one brother and sister in law, Paul and Patsy Poitras; one sister, Jean E. Bernier, all of Limestone; eleven grandchildren, Mykenzie Poitras and Alyssa Poitras, both of Boulder City, NV, Hunter Poitras of Denver, CO, Kendall Poitras of Boulder City, NV, Kara Poitras of Presque Isle, Alex Poitras of Boulder City, NV, Britney Noel and her husband Brian of Lincoln, CA, Brianna Molinari and her husband James of Montreal, PQ, Seth Dee and his wife Kathleen of Bangor, Alexis Hayes and Cole Hayes, both of Fort Fairfield; seven great grandchildren, Beckham and Brooks Noel, Elodie Molinari, Clark, Elliott, and Abel Dee, and Miles Hayes; several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call Friday, August 25, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 144 Main St. Fort Fairfield. A service to celebrate Stephen's life will be conducted Saturday, August 26, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at New Song Church, 36 Chandler Rd, Presque Isle with Pastors Granville and Janice Lamb officiating. Friends may also call at the church from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will follow at the V.F.W. Paul Lockhart Post No. 6187, Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield. Private interment with military honors will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. Those who wish may contribute in memory of Mr. Poitras to New Song Church, care of Pastor Granville Lamb, 378 Centerline Road, Presque Isle Maine 04769.
