Fort Fairfield – Susie B. Bouchard, 91, wife of the late Leo Bouchard, passed away Tuesday afternoon, August 1, 2023 at a Presque Isle nursing facility, following a period of declining health. She was born February 7, 1932 at Portage Lake, the daughter of Leroy and Edna (Bragdon) Hathaway.

Following the death of her mother as a young child, Susie’s father married Marion Pinette who embraced Susie as her own, Susie attended schools in both Portage Lake and Fort Fairfield, and was married to Leo Bouchard in 1949. Susie worked as a housekeeper in several capacities over the years, most especially for the Houghton and Gardner families in Fort Fairfield, and at Dwight’s Barber Shop, Presque Isle. She also assisted area farmers seasonally, including Harris “Whitie” Whited Farms, and Houghton Farms, Fort Fairfield. Susie will be remembered as a wonderful, caring and giving person who was a talented cook and an accomplished seamstress, and who created many crocheted afghans for everyone she met.

In addition to her parents and stepmother, Susie was predeceased by her husband, Leo Bouchard on September 16, 1984; two brothers, Emanuel “Jim” and Dale Hathaway; one sister, Stella Holmes; one granddaughter, Jodie Bouchard Rooney; a special niece who Susie and Leo raised as their own, Tammy Hathaway Churchill.

Susie is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Michael L. and Marilyn Bouchard of Presque Isle; two daughters, Cathy A. Bouchard of Winthrop, Jane and John Kennedy of Westfield; a special niece who Leo and Susie raised as their own, Cindy Bowmaster of Veazie; two sisters, Sheila Jeter of New Hampshire, Evelyn “Dolly” Donnelly and her husband Gil of California; a sister-in-law, Rose Hathaway of New Hampshire; five grandchildren, Marty Ouellette of Augusta, Chris Bouchard of Charlotte, NC, Melissa Doucette and her husband Michael of Castle Hill, Marci Driscoll and her husband Dale of Washburn, Ryan Perry and his wife Dawn of Toronto, Ontario; a grandson-in-law, Christopher Rooney of Presque Isle; fifteen great grandchildren, Gabe Morgan, Joey Ouellette, Joshua and Noah Rooney, Rachel, Emily and Hilary Driscoll, Taylor and Zachary Fletcher, Gracie, Jonny, Micah, Lyuba, Lydia and Mercy Perry; several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call Saturday August 5, 2023 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield, where the funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Jason Blaikie officiating. Interment will follow at the St. Denis Catholic Cemetery, Fort Fairfield.
