Limestone - Gary L. Fitzsimmons, 74, husband of Brenda M. (Oakes) Fitzsimmons, passed away Saturday morning, February 19, 2022 at a Presque Isle hospice facility, following an extended illness. He was born August 17, 1947 in Fort Fairfield, the son of Floyd and Leona (Soucy) Fitzsimmons.

Gary was a graduate of the Limestone High School and received a bachelor’s degree in business from Unity College, Caribou Campus. Gary served his country with the United States Army as a sergeant in Vietnam from 1967 to 1969. He was later transferred to the Maine Army National Guard where he served for a number of years. Gary had been employed by the Limestone Water and Sewer District for almost thirty years as a supervisor and retired from the Maine Military Authority, Loring Commerce Center, as a mechanic. Gary was a member of the VFW Paul Lockhart Post No. 6187, Fort Fairfield, the American Legion Obar-Phair Post No. 127, Limestone, and the Knights of Columbus, Council No. 1870, Caribou. Gary cherished the time spent with his family especially his daughter and granddaughter. He enjoyed camping, most often at Trafton Lake, Limestone.

In addition to his parents, Gary was predeceased by one daughter, Holly Lee Fitzsimmons in 1974; one brother, Clayton Fitzsimmons. He is survived by his wife of fifty-one years, Brenda Fitzsimmons of Limestone; one daughter, Tina Jolly of Biddeford; three brothers, Harold “Pete” Fitzsimmons of Mapleton, Earl Fitzsimmons and his wife Donna of Florida, Robert Fitzsimmons of Limestone; three sisters, Marjorie Andrews of Addison, AL, Sherry Ardine and her husband John of Northford, CT, Linda Fitzsimmons of Limestone; one granddaughter, Ashley Jolly of Saco; numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends may call Wednesday, February 23, 2022 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield, where the funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 p.m.. The family ask that all attendees wear a facemask. Interment with military honors will take place at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery, Limestone, later in the spring. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may contribute in memory of Mr. Fitzsimmons to Maine Veterans Home, 163 Van Buren Road, Suite 2, Caribou, Maine 04736.
