Fort Fairfield – Carolyn A. McKenna, 71, wife of Gerald F. McKenna Sr., passed away Thursday morning, February 11, 2021 at the Aroostook House of Comfort, Presque Isle, following an extended illness. She was born February 26, 1949 in Perth-Andover, New Brunswick, the daughter of Herman and Dorothy (Smith) Nightingale.

She attended Fort Fairfield Schools and was a member of the Fort Fairfield United Parish Church. Carolyn had been employed by several area businesses including Vahlsing Inc., Aroostook Shoe, A & P Processing Plant, McCain Foods, Smyth’s Sub Shop, Lenny’s Restaurant and lastly with J. C. Penney, Presque Isle as a sales clerk. Carolyn was married to Gerald F. McKenna Sr. on May 7, 2011, was active in her church, and was a member of the Fort Fairfield Rifle and Pistol Club. Carolyn truly loved her family and cherished the time spent with her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She also enjoyed arts and crafts as well as cooking.

She was predeceased by her father, Herman Nightingale; her first husband, Burton E. Henderson; one grandson, Daniel Pelkey; one brother, Frederick Nightingale. She is survived by her husband, Gerald; her mother, Dorothy Nightingale, both of Fort Fairfield; one daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Gordon Hewitt of Caribou; two stepsons, Gerald F. McKenna Jr. and his wife Betty of Caribou, Raymond McKenna of Gates, NC; one stepdaughter, Sandra Winslow and her husband Tom of North Conway, NH; one brother, Gary Nightingale and his companion Sheila of Fort Fairfield; one sister and brother-in-law, Debbie and Jim Iverson of Fort Fairfield; thirteen grandchildren, Erika Cochran, Melissa Pelkey, David Pelkey, Andrew Hewitt, Troy Pelkey, Kelley Campbell, Kim Pelkey, Tina Melvin, Stacy Young, Tiffany Lunsford, Ashlee Greene, Danae McKenna, Trent Winslow; twenty-five great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

In keeping with Carolyn’s wishes, calling hours will be private. A graveside service will be conducted later in the spring at Fairmount Cemetery, Presque Isle. Those who wish may contribute in memory of Carolyn to the Aroostook House of Comfort, P.O. Box 867, Presque Isle, Maine 04769.
