FORT FAIRFIELD

Fort Fairfield – Jessie E. Davenport, 94, wife of the late Gideon W. Davenport, passed away Sunday morning, July 16, 2023 at a Presque Isle healthcare facility, following a brief illness. She was born February 9, 1929 in Fort Fairfield, the daughter of Elmer and Palmyra (Dube) Dean.

Jessie attended Fort Fairfield schools, was a communicant of the Parish of the Precious Blood, St. Denis Catholic Church, Fort Fairfield, and was married to Gideon W. Davenport on April 30, 1947. Jessie was a life member of the VFW Paul Lockhart Post No. 6187 Ladies Auxiliary, Fort Fairfield and enjoyed cooking, canning, gardening, and maintaining beautiful flower gardens around her home.

In addition to her parents, Jessie was predeceased by her husband, Gideon on November 13, 2017; two sons, Michael Dean and Randie Davenport; one daughter, Donna Marie Davenport; four brothers, Soloman, Elmer Jr., Wilfred and Donald Dean; one sister, Rose Bubar. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Mamie Dean of Wells; one daughter, Donella Hamel and her husband William of Presque Isle; one sister-in-law, Kathy Dean of Fort Fairfield; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her very special personal caregiver, Penny James of Bridgewater.

A graveside service to celebrate the lives of both Gideon and Jessie with military honors will be conducted on Monday, August 14, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at the Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield with Rev. Memana Abraham officiating. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will take place following the service at the VFW Paul Lockhart Post No. 6187, 130 Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield. Those who wish may contribute in memory of Mrs. Davenport to the VFW Paul Lockhart Post No. 6187 Ladies Auxiliary, 130 Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield, Maine 04742. Envelopes will be available at the service. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield.
