Presque Isle & Fort Fairfield – Barbara L. Ashfield, 76, wife of Wayne G. Ashfield, passed away Saturday morning, May 21, 2022 at her Presque Isle home, following an extended illness. She was born February 14, 1946 in Macomb, IL, the daughter of Fred E. Sr. and Myrtle V. (Overstreet) Torrance.

Barbara was a graduate of the Elkhorn, NB School System in 1964 and earned a bachelors degree in accounting from Northern Virginia Community College. Barbara enjoyed a long and accomplished career as a Contract Specialist with the United States Federal Government. Her career took her to many places around the world, including Fort Bliss, TX, Pearl Harbor, HI, Fort Campbell, KY, Matzen, Germany, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Italy, France, and Belgium, ending her career at the Pentagon. Barbara was a lover of animals and enjoyed reading and crocheting. She especially loved giving her creations away to veterans and hospitals.

In addition to her parents, Barbara was predeceased by two brothers, Fred Torrance Jr. and James White. She is survived by her husband of nearly fifty years, Wayne G. Ashfield of Presque Isle; one sister, June Torrance of Manassas, VA; one sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Michelle and Larry Jenkins of Fort Fairfield; several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call Thursday, May 26, 2022 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield. A graveside service will be conducted at 12:00 noon at the St. Denis Catholic Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. Those who wish may contribute in memory of Barbara to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
