Obituary for Terrell L. Hickox Sr.

Terrell L. Hickox Sr.
TERRELL L. HICKOX SR.
FORT FAIRFIELD

Fort Fairfield – Terrell L. Hickox Sr., 86, husband of the late Linda L. (Bubar) Hickox, passed away Tuesday afternoon, March 15, 2022 at a Caribou healthcare facility, following a period of declining health. He was born September 10, 1935 in Hoboken, Georgia, the son of Claude and Eva (Douglas) Hickox.

Terrell was a graduate of the Brantly County High School, Class of 1954, where he excelled in sports and was the Georgia State High Hurdle record holder and a member of his high school baseball team state champs where he played shortstop. Terrell attended Technical College for Electrical Engineering and served his country with the United States Air Force from 1957 to 1977, first as a bombardier on a B-36 Bomber and later in bomb navigation, and took part of escorting the first nuclear missiles to Loring Air Force Base. His military career took Terrell and his family to many locations, including, Seymour Johnson AFB, North Carolina, Dow AFB, Bangor, Utapo AFB, Thailand, Offutt AFB, S.A.C. Headquarters, Omaha, Nebraska, Loring AFB, Limestone, Robbins AFB, Georgia, and was honorably discharged from Loring AFB in 1977 with the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. Terrell served in the same capacity with the United States Civil Service at Loring AFB until it’s closure in 1994, at which time he and Linda relocated to Barksdale AFB, Shreveport, LA, where Terrell continued working for the U.S. Civil Service. They returned to Fort Fairfield in 1997, following his retirement.

Terrell was an accomplished carpenter, woodworker, wood carver and all around “Jack of All Trades”. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing, a pastime that ultimately led to meeting his future bride. As a young B-36 Bombardier, Terrell would often make sketches and maps of area streams and ponds which corresponded with Loring’s flight line approach, and during his off time, would often use those maps to locate these remote, hard to find spots. Following one such fishing expectation, Terrell exited the woods along the West Limestone Road in Fort Fairfield, near Flannery’s Store, and being the generous sort that he was, approached a nearby farmhouse and proceeded to ask the occupants if they would like to have some of his catch. Upon his second fishing adventure to the same spot, he once again visited that same farmhouse, and encountered a beautiful young woman whom Terrell asked to accompany him to the Caribou VFW, and the rest is history.

He married Linda L. Bubar shortly after, on October 4, 1957, with whom he spent over 63 wonderful years of marriage. In addition to his parents, Terrell was predeceased by his wife Linda on January 13, 2021; one son, Ricky A. Hickox on October 10, 2010; two brothers, Larry and Barry Hickox. He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Terrell L., Jr. and Marilyn Hickox of Caribou; one brother and sister-in-law, James and Dorothy Hickox of Hoboken, GA; three grandchildren, Ryan Hickox of Portland, William Dumond of Pennsylvania, Dahna Plourde and her husband Tyler of Caribou; and Terrell’s pride and joy, a great granddaughter, Callie Plourde of Caribou; several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be conducted Thursday, May 26, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at the Northern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 37 Lombard Road, Caribou with Pastor Jim Duran officiating. Those who wish may contribute in memory of Mr. Hickox to the Wounded Warrior Project at www.woundedwarriorproject.org. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield. Online condolences may be expressed at www.gibersondorseyfuneralhome.com
