Washburn & Fort Fairfield – Alan James “AJB” Barnes, 66, husband of the late Sue (McQuade) Barnes, passed away unexpectedly Monday morning, March 15, 2021 at his Washburn home. He was born March 29, 1954 in Fort Fairfield, the son of Otis R. and Anna (Cummings) Barnes.

He was a graduate of the Fort Fairfield High School, Class of 1972 and was a member of the Fort Fairfield Future Farmers of America. Alan had been employed as a car salesman with M.P.G., Presque Isle for thirty years and later with North Country Auto for seventeen years. He was a member of the Fort Fairfield Lions Club where he served as president in 1983 and 1984, and was an avid golfer both on the course and on Xbox, and was the 2002 winner of the McCain Open. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather as well as a true friend to his dog “Buddy”.

In addition to his parents, Alan was predeceased by one brother, John Barnes. He is survived by three daughters, Angel Barnes of Gainsville, GA, Melissa Barnes and her companion Duke Boulier, Jessica Puig and her husband Juan, all of Fort Fairfield; three stepchildren, Robert Flynn of Presque Isle, Mike Flynn and his wife Jamy, Christy Bassett, all of Virginia; two brothers, Dale Barnes of Deatsville, AL, Neil Barnes of Presque Isle; 17 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren: several nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his special colleagues at North Country Auto, as well as a special friend Ryan.

Friends may call Tuesday March 23, 2021 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield. Please be advised that a face covering is required and the amount of people in the facility at one time is limited. Due to the current restrictions on gatherings, the funeral service will be private for the family. Interment will take place at the Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield, later in the spring. Those who wish may contribute in memory of Mr. Barnes to the Fort Fairfield Lions Club, P.O. Box 583, Fort Fairfield, Maine 04742. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
