Limestone – James A. Pelkey Sr., 69, husband of Angela (Bartlett) Pelkey, passed away Wednesday evening July 31, 2019 at a Presque Isle hospice facility, following a brief illness. He was born July 11, 1950 in Caribou, the son of William and Edith (Hurd) Pelkey.

He was a graduate of the Limestone High School, Class of 1969 and went on to serve his country with the United States Army Special Forces in Vietnam from December 1969 to December 1971. Jim had been employed as a policeman with the Town of Limestone for ten years, the Aroostook County Sheriffs Department for ten years, and worked for the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency for 3 years. He was married to Angela Bartlett on October 21, 1995 and was a lifelong communicant of the Parish of the Precious Blood, St. Louis Catholic Church, Limestone. Jim served his parish as the caretaker of the St. Louis Catholic Cemetery for several years and was a member of the Limestone Knights of Columbus Council No. 2851, where he served as Grand Knight for six years. He was also a member of the VFW Hayward-Frazier Post No. 2599, Presque Isle. Jim also generously gave of his time at the Limestone Ecumenical Food Pantry for many years.

In addition to his parents, Jim was predeceased by four brothers, Roger, Robert, Patrick and David Pelkey; one sister, Cecile Rhodes. He is survived by his wife Angela of Limestone; four sons, James Pelkey Jr. and his companion Wendy Cote of Limestone, Billy Pelkey of Maryland, James Pelkey of Virginia, Jason Pelkey and his wife Tammy of Limestone; two stepsons, Joseph McDougal II of Portland, Gregory Adams of Presque Isle; two stepdaughters, Melissa Bartlett of Easton, Allyson McDougal of Portland; two sisters, Norma Guthrie of Caribou, Mary Lou Conlin and her husband Tom of Holbrook, MA; twelve grandchildren, Rebekah Pekley of Limestone, Danielle Pelkey of Vassalboro, Ryan Pelkey of Presque Isle, Chelsey Pelkey of Fairfield, CA, Zachary Pelkey of Washburn, Matthew Pelkey of Limestone, Chance Pelkey of Limestone, Taylor Pelkey of Nebraska, Hansante Pelkey of Maryland, James, Jimia, Jazmyn Pelkey, all of South Carolina; three step-grandchildren, Tyler Keiser of Presque Isle, Spencer Keiser and Bryce St. Pierre, both of Limestone; one great granddaughter, Selena Goodblood of Limestone; several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call Monday August 5, 2019 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday August 6, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Parish of the Precious Blood, St. Louis Catholic Church, Limestone, with a time of continued fellowship and refreshments to follow in the church reception area. Interment with military honors will take place at 2:00 p.m. at the Northern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Caribou. Those who wish may contribute in memory of Mr. Pelkey to the St. Louis Catholic Church Ecumenical Food Pantry, c/o the Parish of the Precious Blood, P.O. Box 625, Caribou, Maine 04736.
