LIMESTONE

Limestone – Philip G. Adams, 86, husband of Barbara A. (Young) Adams, passed away Tuesday afternoon, July 16, 2019 at a Presque Isle nursing facility, following an extended illness. He was born April 10, 1933 in Linneus, the son of Bernard and Viola (Estey) Adams.

He attended elementary school in Linneus and was a 1951 graduate of Ricker Classical Institute, Houlton. He was also a graduate of Ricker College, Houlton, where he received a bachelor’s degree in education, and received his master’s degree in guidance counseling from the University of Maine at Farmington. Mr. Adams served in the United States Army during the late 1950’s. Early in his career, he enjoyed coaching baseball and basketball. His lengthy career in education included several years at Penguis Valley High School in Milo where he taught psychology and assisted in the guidance department. He also taught at the Brownville Junction High School for eleven years where he taught social studies and also worked in the guidance department. Philip retired in 1991 after twenty-one years of dedicated service to the Limestone School Department as a guidance counselor. Philip was a member of the Pleasant River Masonic Lodge No. 163 AF & AM, Brownville, where he served in several capacities including Worshipful Master, and was the current chaplain of Limestone Lodge No. 214 AF & AM, a position he proudly held for many years. He was also a member of the Rabboni Chapter of the York Rite, Milo. Philip was also very active with the Limestone Rotary Club and was distinguished as a Paul Harris Fellow in 1999, and the 2019 Limestone Town Report was dedicated to him. He was also a dedicated member o the Limestone United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents, Philip was predeceased by two brothers, Jamie and Edwin “Ted” Adams. He is survived by his wife of almost fifty-three years, Barbara of Limestone, three daughters, Cindy Edgecomb and her husband Fred of Limestone, Holly Vondell and her husband Steve of Northport, Denise Adams and her partner Rick Langley of Augusta; two grandchildren, Misty Edgecomb and her husband Caleb Raynor of Las Vegas NV, Sean Edgecomb and his partner Cullen Riley of Groton, CT and Brooklyn, NY; a great grandson Theodore Edgecomb Raynor of Las Vegas, NV, a nephew, Ed Adams and his wife Robin of Massachusetts; and a special cousin Kay McGinnis and her husband Dean of Linneus.

Friends may call Friday July 19, 2019 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield, where an evening Masonic memorial service will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. by the officers of the Limestone Masonic Lodge No. 214 AF & AM . The funeral service will be conducted Saturday July 20, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Cheryl Stratton officiating. Interment will take place at the Linneus Cemetery. Those who wish may contribute in memory of Mr. Adams to the charity of organization of one’s choice.
