Presque Isle & Knox – Charlene Clark, 86, wife of Merland A. Clark, passed away Thursday morning, December 22, 2016 at a Bangor nursing facility, following an extended period of declining health. She was born March 18, 1930 in Palmyra, the daughter of Otis and Phoebe (Pelletier) Somers.

She was a graduate of the Corrina High School and went on to serve her country with the Woman’s Army Corps from 1952 to 1953. Charlene was married to Merland A. Clark on August 1, 1953, had been employed as a Certified Nurses Aid at the Bangor Hospital, and also worked for Earl’s Frozen Foods in Presque Isle. She had been a resident of Presque Isle from 1975 until earlier this year when she and Merland relocated to Knox.

In addition to her parents, Charlene was predeceased by two brothers, James and Russell Somers; and one brother-in-law, Carroll Allen. She is survived by her husband of sixty-three years, Merland of Knox; two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Linda Clark of Marlboro, MA, Robert and Kathy Clark of Houston, TX; two daughters, Cheryl A. Mattson of Las Vegas, NV, Virginia S. Anderson of Seattle, WA; two sisters, Geneva Allen of Hampden, Marjorie M. Saunders and her husband Wilbur of Surry; three grandchildren; two great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

In keeping with Charlene’s wishes, there will be no services. Those who wish may contribute in her memory to the Salvation Army (Houlton Chapter) 12 Court Street, Houlton, Maine 04730.
