FORT FAIRFIELD

Fort Fairfield – Clayton W. Hayes Sr., 76, passed away Thursday morning October 27, 2016 at a Bangor nursing facility, following a period of declining health. He was born October 25, 1940 in Fort Fairfield, the son of Michael Warren and Ethel (Sprague) Hayes.

He was a graduate of the Fort Fairfield High School and served with the United States Army from 1956 to 1958. He had been employed by Northeast Packaging of Presque Isle for a number of years.

In addition to his parents, Clayton was predeceased by three sons, Irving L. Hayes in 1962, Clayton W. Hayes Jr. in 1993 and Geoffrey A. Hayes in 2016; two brothers, Kenneth and Raymond Hayes; his longtime companion Nancy Beaupre.

He is survived by one daughter, Carla E. Thibeau of Syracuse, NY; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Michael and Ann Hayes, David and Carla Hayes and Donald and Linda Hayes, all of Fort Fairfield; three sisters, Gladys Keegan of Fort Fairfield; Myrtle Johnson of Mesquite, TX, Shirley Hubeli of Houston, TX; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be conducted Thursday November 3, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield with Carla Hayes officiating. Those who wish may contribute in memory of Clayton to the Alzheimer’s Association, Maine Chapter, 383 US Route One, Suite 2C, Scarborough, Maine 04074.
