Obituary for Winifred "Winnie" Kimball (Durepo)

WINIFRED DUREPO KIMBALL
FORT FAIRFIELD

Fort Fairfield – Our beloved mother, Winnie Durepo Kimball, 89, passed away Monday evening December 7, 2015 at a Caribou nursing facility, following a period of declining health. She was born August 16, 1926 in Fort Fairfield, the daughter of Robert M. and Maryann (Bouchard) Durepo.

Winnie was a graduate of the Fort Fairfield High School Class of 1944 and she was married to Darrell N. Kimball. They moved to Wallingford, Connecticut in 1955 and returned to Fort Fairfield in 1968. Winnie worked in medical records at the Community General Hospital and at The Aroostook Medical Center until her retirement. Many people will remember Winnie as a talented seamstress. Winnie enjoyed playing the guitar, reading, crocheting and ceramics. She loved taking long rides to see the countryside. She especially loved the opportunity to see the ocean. In 1999 Winnie suffered a massive stroke that left her with right side paralysis. Although the stroke didn’t define all of her life, it did take its toll. Winnie showed amazing determination and courage for the past 16 years. She resided at Leisure Village in Presque Isle for many of those years. Her disability didn’t stop her from coloring velvet posters that decorated her room. Winnie will be remembered for her sweet smile.

Our heartfelt gratitude to Albert Cyr, Philip Cyr and the staff at the Caribou Nursing and Rehab Center for all their care and compassion. She will forever be in our hearts.

She is survived by her daughter Sharon Boulris of Limestone, her daughter and son-in-law, Lorraine and Paul Maguire of Caribou; and her granddaughter, Erin Maguire of Portland; one special sister, Viola Soltez of Portales, New Mexico; several nieces, nephews and extended family members.

In addition to her parents, Winnie was predeceased by her husband Darrell; her brother, Richard L. Durepo of Florida; and her son-in-law, Norman Boulris.

Friends may call Friday December 11, 2015 from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield. The funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Fr. Jean-Paul Labrie officiating. Private interment will take place at St. Denis Catholic Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. A Celebration of Winnie’s Life with refreshments will be held at home of her daughter Sharon Boulris, 613 Bog Road, Limestone, immediately following the service.

Those who wish may contribute in memory of Winnie to the Fort Fairfield Public Library, 339 Main Street, Fort Fairfield, Maine 04742. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Online condolences may be expressed at www.gibersondorseyfuneralhome.com
