Obituary for H. Roger Flannery

H. ROGER FLANNERY
SCARBOROUGH & FORT FAIRFIELD
Scarborough & Fort Fairfield – H. Roger Flannery, 81, husband of the late Delores A. “Doll” Flannery, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, May 23, 2015 at the Flannery Farm in Fort Fairfield, where he was born on August 23, 1933, the son of Thomas E. and Clara M. (Donovan) Flannery.

Roger was a graduate of the Fort Fairfield High School and served his country with the United States Army during the Korean War, stationed in El Paso, TX. Following his military discharge, Roger furthered his education at Ricker College, Houlton. He was married to Delores “Doll” Adams on June 13, 1953, with whom Roger shared fifty-seven wonderful years of marriage. Roger had been self-employed as a potato farmer in Fort Fairfield for 30 years, owned and operated the Moosehead Hotel in Scarborough for 20 years as well as being an entrepreneur in other areas of business. Roger first and foremost loved the Lord. He was instrumental in the establishment and construction of the Maranatha Academy, Presque Isle and had most recently attended the Royal Ridge Church of God, Scarborough. He especially loved his wife, sons and family. His unwavering love for the Lord was proven for all to see with his “Praise The Lord” barn on the Houlton Road in Fort Fairfield, which was a well known landmark. Roger was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish, and camp. He also greatly enjoyed basketball, baseball, gardening, and maintaining an impeccable home. He was also very active and involved in community affairs.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Flannery was predeceased by his wife Doll on May 29, 2010; one granddaughter, Nicole; four brothers, Jon-Dale, Leonard, John and Shirley Flannery; three sisters, Audrey Nystrom, Helen Wright and Dawn Bishop. He is survived by six sons, Thomas E. Flannery II of Portland, G. Daniel Flannery and his wife Karen of Westbrook, Roger Flannery II of Gorham, Kerry C. Flannery and his companion Beth Boyd of Falmouth, Timothy A. Flannery and his wife Corie of Portland, Todd L. Flannery and his wife Kari of Scarborough; one brother and sister-in-law, Ruel and Gloria Flannery of Fort Fairfield; one sister, Elouise Anticoli of Biddeford; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Jon-Dale (Tiny) Flannery and Mrs. Shirley (Margaret) Flannary, both of Fort Fairfield; nineteen grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many friends throughout the State of Maine and beyond.

Friends may call Wednesday May 27, 2015 from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield, where the funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. J.D. Simmons officiating. Interment will follow at the Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held after the interment service at the VFW Paul Lockhart Post Number 6187, Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield.
