Obituary for Edith I. O'Clair (Michaud)

EDITH IDA MICHAUD O’CLAIR
FORT FAIRFIELD
Fort Fairfield – Edith Ida Michaud O’Clair, age 92, resident of the Presque Isle Nursing Home, died February 22, 2015 at the home, following an extended illness. Edith was born Sept. 17, 1922 in Limestone, the daughter of Thomas and Agnes (Lavoie) Michaud.

She was one of 12 children of Thomas and Agnes and grew up in Sheridan. She was married to Leo O’Clair on December 4, 1939 and they had 6 children. After marriage they lived in Ashland but most of their married life lived in Fort Fairfield. On October 3, 1966, Edith picked 150 barrels of potatoes on the Frank McGrath farm. She picked a lot of potatoes in her lifetime but also cut seed potatoes for different farmers. She not only had a strong back but was a strong person. She helped support her family by doing housekeeping for different families in Fort Fairfield. She was a breast cancer survivor at the age of 48. She enjoyed many years of snowmobiling throughout Northern Maine as well as traveling to see her children in Florida, North Carolina, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Alaska, Pennsylvania and British Columbia.

She is survived by her daughters, Florence Cyr and her husband Edmond of Bangor, Annette Foster and her companion Palmer Hyman of Pelzer, SC, Kathleen Larme and her husband Peter of Marion Center, PA, Betty Gibson and her husband Joe of Penticton, British Columbia, and Judy Gardner and her husband Glenn of Ellenton, FL; one sister Theresa Carney of Ashland; 17 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren; and numerous great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father Thomas Michaud in 1975, mother Agnes Michaud in 1968, her husband Leo O’Clair in 1962, son Larry O’Clair in 1986, sisters Eva King 2002, Ella Boulier 2004, Clara Snow 2011, Delina DeVoe 1985, Bertha York 1999, Rose Archer 2001, Blanche Campbell 2005, Dorothy Knox 2005, Cecile Ouellette 2011, and brother O’Neil Michaud 2012.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield, July 15, 2015 at 1:00 p.m.. Friends may call at the funeral home from 12:00 noon until the time of service. Interment will follow at the St. Denis Catholic Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held at the VFW Paul Lockhart Post Number 6187, Presque Isle Street, immediately after the interment service.
