FORT FAIRFIELD & PRESQUE ISLE

Fort Fairfield & Presque Isle – Ernest W. Shaw, Jr., 95, husband of the late Beverly A. (Blank) Shaw, passed away Saturday afternoon, February 11, 2023 at the Aroostook House of Comfort, Presque Isle, following a brief illness. He was born April 12, 1927 in Fort Fairfield, the son of Ernest W. Sr. and Rena M. (LeVasseur) Shaw.

Ernest was a graduate of the Fort Fairfield High School, Class of 1944, and went on to serve his country with the United States Army from October 1950 to September 1952, attaining the rank of corporal, and was stationed in Germany. Ernest enjoyed a twenty-five year career as an electronics technician with R.C.A. in Van Nuys, CA, and following his retirement, established B & E Postal, which he operated in Van Nuys, CA for several years. Ernest later resided in Sun City West, AZ for more that twenty years, and returned to Aroostook County where he made his home in Presque Isle. Ernest will be remembered as a very special person who enjoyed staying active. He greatly enjoyed daily walks and playing bridge, was a communicant of both St. Denis and St. Mary’s Catholic Churches.

In addition to his parents, Ernest was predeceased by his wife Beverly on April 24, 1993; two brothers, Reginald K. Shaw and Wendall W. Shaw; one sister, Elaine Blanchard.

He is survived by one daughter, Jayne E. Shaw of Fort Fairfield; one sister, Polly Shaw of Bath; six nieces and nephews, Mark Blanchard of Florida, Dana Blanchard of California, Linda Shaw of Fort Fairfield, Nancy Shaw Perry of Westbrook, Arthur Shaw of Florida, Susan Craddock of Alabama.

Friends may call Sunday, February 19, 2023 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, February 20, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at the Parish of the Precious Blood, St. Denis Catholic Church, 147 Main Street, Fort Fairfield. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held following the Mass at the Knights of Columbus, Council No. 1753, 260 Main Street, Fort Fairfield. Interment with military honors will take place later in the spring at the St. Denis Catholic Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. Those who wish may contribute in memory of Mr. Shaw to the American Cancer Society, New England Division, One Bowdion Mill Island, Suite 300, Topsham, Maine 04086.
