RITA JEAN THOMPSON
FORT FAIRFIELD
Fort Fairfield – Rita Jean Thompson, 78, wife of the late Berkley A. Thompson, passed away Thursday evening, February 9, 2023 at Madigan Estates, Houlton, following an extended illness. She was born September 4, 1944 in Fort Fairfield, the daughter of Stephen Jr. and Rita (Theriault) Murphy.
She was a graduate of the Fort Fairfield High School, Class of 1963 and had been employed as a C.N.A. for a number of years at the Fort Fairfield Community General Hospital. Rita was married to Berkley A. Thompson on August 16, 1963 with whom she shared fifty-five wonderful years of marriage.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Katrina J. Williams on November 3, 2018; and her husband, Berkley A. Thompson on December 26, 2018.
She is survived by one daughter, Elaine Elizabeth Thompson of Limestone; four grandchildren and spouses, Amanda and Rev. Roy Dee of Limestone Siding, NB, Amy and Calvin McDougal of Perth-Andover, NB, Nathan Searles and his wife Janice Walsh of Fort Fairfield, Jason Searles of Bangor; ten great grandchildren, Mia and Conner Gallagher, both of Limestone Siding, NB, Brian Searles of Presque Isle, Anastasia and Alexander Searles, both of Fort Fairfield, Blake LaChance of Mars Hill, Gunner McDougal of Perth-Andover, NB, Ian and Ethan Willard, MacKenzie Pictou, all of Fort Fairfield; several extended family members.
Friends may call Wednesday, February 15, 2023 from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield, where the funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Ron Doughty officiating. Interment will take place at the Northern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Caribou, later in the spring. Those who wish may contribute in memory of Rita to the Madigan Estates Memorial Fund, 93 Military Street, Houlton, Maine 04730, Attention: Kara. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
