Fort Fairfield – Shirley E. Chasse, 94, wife of the late Harold L. Chasse, passed away Sunday morning, December 18, 2022 at the Mars Hill Nursing Home, following a period of declining health. She was born April 1, 1928 in Fort Fairfield, the daughter of William J. and Nellie L. (White) Deschesne.

Shirley attended Fort Fairfield schools and was a communicant of the Parish of the Precious Blood, St. Denis Catholic Church, Fort Fairfield. Shirley had been employed by the former A & P Processing Plant, Fort Fairfield for a number of years and also worked seasonally for several area potato farmers. She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella, Santa Maria Circle No. 427, Fort Fairfield and the VFW Paul Lockhart Ladies Auxiliary, Fort Fairfield. Shirley greatly enjoyed many activities with her husband Harold, including camping, fishing, trips to Eastport and Florida, yardsaling with her daughter Cindy, and adored her dogs, Barney and Inky.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was predeceased by three sons, David, Robert and Timothy Chasse; two daughters, an infant girl and Cynthia LaCroix; five brothers, William, Harry, Michael, Robert and Phillip Deschesne; five sisters, Anita Gamblin, Mary Deschesne, Joyce Adams, Nellie Laughlin, Jean Deschesne; and one granddaughter, Tammy Lynn DeLong on December 18, 2022.

She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Dana and Donna Chasse of Mars Hill, James and Brenda Chasse of Presque Isle, Joseph and Beverly Chasse of Fort Fairfield; one sister, Valerie Deschesne of Presque Isle; seventeen grandchildren; numerous great and great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In keeping with Shirley’s wishes, a graveside service will be conducted in the spring at the St. Denis Catholic Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. Those who wish may contribute in memory of Shirley to the Aroostook House of Comfort, P.O. Box 867, Presque Isle, Maine 04769 or the Central Aroostook Humane Society, 24 Cross Street, Presque Isle, Maine 04769.
