Obituary for M. Dawn Deschesne (Simmons)

M. Dawn Deschesne (Simmons)
M. DAWN DESCHESNE
FORT FAIRFIELD

Mary “Dawn” (Simmons) Deschesne - God has taken a special angel home. Dawn passed away November 20, at Cary Medical Center after a long battle with dementia, the same place her Mom died 28 years ago. She was born in Fort Fairfield July 12, 1933 the youngest daughter of Daniel M. and Isabel (Jones) Simmons.

She graduated from Fort Fairfield High School in 1951 and was a lifelong resident of the little town she loved dearly. Becoming a widow at 42, she sold Avon for many years having made many dear friends along the way. She loved her family dearly as well as her flowers, birds, and especially the holidays. In the early 60’s Dawn was the first in northern Maine to host toy parties. We didn’t have much money and this is how she made such an exciting Christmas, no one made Christmas more enjoyable than Mom. Dawn loved golf, a huge Tiger Woods fan as well as the Red Sox her favorite player being Jim Rice whom she got to meet years later. Dawn was a member of the Fort Fairfield Alumni Association, ballot clerk, Girl Scout leader and was a volunteer and employee of the Fort Fairfield Library, a place she cherished since she was a little girl. Dawn was an excellent cook and loved giving to others.

She was preceded by her parents, husband, Michael A. Deschesne in 1975; son, Michael Jeffrey Deschesne; special grandson, Benjamin Deschesne; brothers Harold “Bunny” Simmons and Ralph Simmons; sisters, Helen Flanagan, Ruth Hughes and Mildred “Babe” Topping; and nephew, David Simmons. She is survived by her daughter, Ruth Corey of Brewer, sons, Stephen and Scott Deschesne, both of Veazie; granddaughter and pride and joy, Miranda Rancourt of Brewer; grandsons, Trevor Gilbert of California, Court Rancourt of Albion, Matthew Deschesne of Weston, Jack Corey of Brewer, and Jake Deschesne of Bangor; many nieces and nephews; special cousins, Carol Pelletier and Ron Rollins. A special thank you to Dr. Hoeksema and the entire staff at Cary Acute Unit for the excellent care Mom received over the past month.

Friends may call Saturday November 26, 2022 from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield, where the funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev.
