Fort Fairfield – Richard P. Gagnon Sr., 80, passed away unexpectedly Saturday morning, October 29, 2022 in Fort Fairfield. He was born May 21, 1942 in Winterville, the son of Patrick and Rita (Godin) Gagnon.

Richard attended school in Winterville and was a graduate of the Fort Fairfield High School, Class of 1962. He served his country with the United States Army and Army Reserves from 1962 to 1966, stationed at Fort Sill, OK. Richard had been employed by Reed Farms, Fort Fairfield for many years, and later worked at WalMart and Save-A-Lot in Presque Isle until his retirement in 2020. Richard will be remembered by his family as a wonderful man and the world’s biggest tease. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt, fish, camp and snowmobile. He also enjoyed road trips, and his family was the center of his life.

In addition to his parents, Richard was predeceased by his wife, Margaret (Sullivan) Gagnon; one son, Richard P. Gagnon Jr.. He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Hope Gagnon; one daughter, Shelley Gagnon and her companion, Brent Holton Jr., all of Fort Fairfield; two sisters, Phyllis Curlis and her husband Jim of Caribou, Linda Curlin of Louisiana; seven grandchildren, Ashley Dionne and her husband George Jr. of Poland, Michael Bowker and his fiancé Valerie of Washburn, Sarah Nash of Presque Isle, Randy Nash and his wife Macy of Blaine, Corey Nash and his fiancé Julia of Dover-Foxcroft, Amanda Holton, Emma Holton and her fiancé Shane Sherwood, all of Fort Fairfield; fourteen great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service with military honors will be conducted at a later date at the Union Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. Those who wish may contribute in memory of Mr. Gagnon to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741.
