FORT FAIRFIELD

Fort Fairfield – Alvin R. Belanger, 61, husband of Tawny (King) Belanger, passed away Saturday morning July 18, 2020 at his Fort Fairfield home following an extended illness. He was born July 16, 1959 in Presque Isle, the son of Joseph and Julia (Ambrose) Belanger.

He was a graduate of the Ashland High School, Class of 1978, and served eight years and eight months in the United States Air Force, Stationed in Guam, Utah, Turkey and Florida, earning the rank of E5. He had been employed for twenty-three years with Smith Farms, Westfield, and was a member of the American Legion Post Number 15, Caribou. Alvin loved to play darts, and also enjoyed hiking, fishing and especially enjoyed climbing Haystack Mountain.

He was predeceased by his father, Joseph Belanger; two brothers, Wilmer and Lewis Belanger. He is survived by his wife Tawny of Fort Fairfield; his mother, Julia Belanger of Presque Isle; a stepson, Joseph Plourde of Caribou; two sisters, Peggy Gilmer and Kathy Belanger, both of Presque Isle; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Wilmer (Paula) Belanger of Caribou, Mrs. Lewis (Nola) Belanger of Colorado; one step-granddaughter, Alicia Rose of Caribou; several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call Wednesday July 22, 2020 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield. A private graveside service with military honors will take place at a later date at the Northern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Caribou.
