Fort Fairfield – Mavis I. Cheney, 91, passed away Thursday morning, March 17, 2022 at a Presque Isle healthcare facility, following a brief illness. She was born October 19, 1930 in Easton, the daughter of Benjamin F. and Helen F. (Hanson) Cox.

She was a graduate of the Fort Fairfield high School, Class of 1950, and was a member of the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Fort Fairfield. Mavis was married to Adelbert Cheney of March 5, 1952 and moved to New Hampshire, then to Florida, where she worked as a waitress for eight years. She later moved to Connecticut where she worked as a waitress and later for Timex, Middlebury, CT, and later for Allied Bendix, Cheshire, CT as a gyro assembly technician until her retirement in 1992. Mavis enjoyed puzzles; spending time with her family and loved her many feline companions who shared her life over the years.

In addition to her parents, Mavis was predeceased by one sister, Charlotte Nelson; two brothers, George and Austin Cox. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Roger A. and Jeanne Cheney of Palm Beach, FL, Ronald B. and Susan Cheney of Liberty, Ohio; one brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Rose Cox of Waterbury, CT; sister-in-law, Marie Cox of Walton, KY; seven grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be conducted Thursday June 9, 2022 at 12:00 noon at Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. Those who wish may contribute in memory of Mavis to the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Memorial Fund, c/o Gloria Towle, 645 Houlton Road, Easton, Maine 04740.
