Fort Fairfield – Donald R. Dean, 87, husband of Kathryn B. (Walker) Dean, passed away Tuesday morning, March 1, 2022 at a Presque Isle healthcare facility, following a period of declining health. He was born May 18, 1934 in Fort Fairfield, the son of Elmer D. Sr. and Palmyra (Dube) Dean.

Donald was a graduate of the Fort Fairfield High School, Class of 1952 and went on to serve his country with the United States Army from 1956 to 1958, and was stationed at Rocky Point, Long Island, NY. Donald enjoyed a long career of over thirty years at Loring Air Force Base, first at the Cold Storage Facility and later as a mechanic with the Refueling/Maintenance Division. He also managed the Fort Fairfield Bradley’s Car Wash and Laundromat for over thirty years. Donald was a communicant of the Parish of the Precious Blood, St. Denis Catholic Church, Fort Fairfield and had been a member of the Fort Fairfield Volunteer Fire Department, had been a reserve officer with the Fort Fairfield Police Department for over fifteen years, and was a third degree member of the Fort Fairfield Knights of Columbus Council No. 1757.

In addition to his parents, Donald was predeceased by three brothers, Soloman, Elmer Jr. and Wilfred Dean; one sister, Rose Bubar. He is survived by his wife of sixty-three years, Kathryn Dean of Fort Fairfield; two sons, Christopher L. Dean and his wife Victoria of Marlboro, NJ, Jason D. Dean and his wife Patricia of Caribou; three daughters, Cheryl A. Everett and her husband Douglas of Devon, Alberta, Susan C. Patenaude and her husband Michael of Presque Isle, Diane L. Boone and her husband David W. Leighton Sr. of Stetson; one sister, Jessie Davenport Fort Fairfield; five grandchildren, Thomas Dean and Matthew Dean, both of Marlboro, NJ, William Dean of College Station, TX, Kathryn E. and Rachel D. Patenaude, both of Bangor; numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends may call Monday, March 7, 2022 from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield where the funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m.. Interment with military honors will take place later in the spring at the St. Denis Catholic Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. Those who wish may contribute in memory of Donald to the Central Aroostook Humane Society, 24 Cross Street, Presque Isle, Maine 04769. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
