Fort Fairfield – Leslie D. “Les” Cote, 79, passed away Wednesday afternoon, May 5, 2021 at the Presque Isle Nursing Home where he had been a resident for the past sixteen years as the result of a tragic stroke. He was born September 30, 1941 in Fort Fairfield, the son of Leslie H. and Evelyn (Gervais) Cote.

Les was a communicant of Parish of the Precious Blood, St. Denis Catholic Church, Fort Fairfield and was a graduate of the Fort Fairfield High School, Class of 1961. He served in the Maine Army National Guard during the 1960’s and later owned and operated Fort Auto Body for over 30 years. Les loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed many outings to his camp at Big Machais Lake.

In addition to his parents, Les was predeceased by one brother, Clyde Cote.

He is survived by two sons, Lee Cote of Presque Isle and Troy Cote and his wife Erin of Saco; two daughters, Laurie Thebarge and her husband John of Old Town, Kim Prime and her husband Steven of Freemont, NH; two stepsons, George Taggett of Waldorf, MD, Glenn Taggett and his wife Kim of Caribou; one stepdaughter, Tracy Ugone and her husband Tony of Charlotte, NC; one brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Gail Cote of Fort Fairfield; one sister and brother-in-law, Rachael and George Taggett of Waldorf, MD; fourteen grandchildren; three great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, including a special niece Jennifer Cote Michaud of Caribou.

Les’ family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and staff of the Presque Isle Nursing Home for sixteen years of wonderful and compassionate care given to Les during his stay.

Friends may call Monday, May 10, 2021 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield, where services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Tony Kanagaraj, HGN officiating. Please be advised that a face covering is required and the amount of guest in the facility at one time is limited. Interment will follow at the St. Denis Catholic Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. Those who wish may contribute in memory of Les to the Presque Isle Nursing Home Memorial Fund, 162 Academy Street, Presque Isle, Maine 04769. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
