Melvin A.  Kelley

Fort Fairfield – Melvin A. Kelley, 91, husband of the late Linda D. (Conant) Kelley, passed away Sunday morning, May 2, 2021 at his Fort Fairfield home, following a period of declining health. He was born September 10, 1929 in Fort Fairfield, the son of Reuben and Eunice (Morrell) Kelley.

Mel attended Fort Fairfield schools and served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War with the 405th Motor Vehicle Squadron, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was married to Linda D. Conant on July 27, 1966 and was employed by Peterson’s Motor Mart in Fort Fairfield for a number of years. He received his State of Maine Teacher’s Certificate and became employed by SAD # 20 Fort Fairfield High School as an Industrial Arts Instructor, a position he held for twenty-five years until his retirement. He was a member of the VFW Paul Lockhart Post Number 6187, Fort Fairfield.

In addition to his parents, Mel was predeceased by his wife Linda on May 16, 2008.

He is survived by three sons, Michael A. Kelley and his companion Lynn Floyd of Fort Fairfield, Paul M. Kelley of Fort Fairfield and his companion Manon Devost of Green River, New Brunswick, Stephen F. Kelley of Fort Fairfield; two sisters, Lois Kelley of Caribou and Cora Maynard of Washburn; two granddaughters, Alexandra Kelley of Corinth, and Madison Kelley of Green River, New Brunswick. He also leaves behind two brothers-in-law, James Conant of Fort Fairfield and Thomas Conant and his wife Betty of Spring Hill, FL; several nieces and nephews.

In keeping with Mel’s wishes, there will be no services. Interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. Those who wish may contribute in memory of Mr. Kelley to Aroostook Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 867, Presque Isle, Maine 04769. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield. Online condolences may be expressed at .
