Easton – Eugene E. Johnston, 81, husband of Carol P. (DeMerchant) Johnston, passed away unexpectedly Saturday morning, March 20, 2021 at his Easton home. He was born August 20, 1939 in Charleston, RI, the son of Earl and Elsie (Lockhart) Johnston.

He was a graduate of the Easton High School and was married to Carol P. DeMerchant on November 10, 1961. Eugene had been employed by Vahlsing Enterprises, Easton for a number of years and worked at H&G Produce, Easton for over 30 years until his retirement in 2002. Eugene was an avid sportsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping. He greatly enjoyed time spent with his family, most especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Johnston was predeceased by two sons-in-law, Timothy Chasse and Roland Michaud.

He is survived by his wife of nearly sixty years, Carol Johnston of Easton; three daughters, Anita Michaud of Caribou, Jennifer Chasse of Easton, Beverly Chasse and her husband Joseph of Fort Fairfield; four grandchildren, Todd Chasse and his companion Lee Ann Keiser of Easton, Wayne Chasse and his wife Ashley of Westfield, Amanda Guerrette, Brook Trombley and her husband Matt, all of Fort Fairfield; eight great grandchildren, Rylee Chasse, Rylee Brown, Savana Brown, Cody Chasse, Alex Chasse, Andrew Gagnon, Michael Gagnon, Tatianna Rushing; special cousin, Bonnie Murphy and her husband Laurie, and their daughter Merrietta, all of Upper Knoxford, New Brunswick.

Friends may call Friday, March 26, 2021 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield. A face covering is required and the number of guest in the facility at one time is limited. Following calling hours, friends and family members are invited to share in conversation and refreshments at the Manor Recreation Center, Easton. Interment will take place in Perth-Andover, New Brunswick at a later date. Those who wish may contribute in memory of Eugene to the Central Aroostook Humane Society, 24 Cross Street, Presque Isle, Maine 04769.
