Obituary for Lloyd G. McLaughlin

Lloyd G. McLaughlin
LLOYD G. MCLAUGHLIN
LIMESTONE & FORT FAIRFIELD

Limestone & Fort Fairfield - Lloyd George McLaughlin was born to George and Beulah (Curry) McLaughlin on July 16, 1934 in Limestone, Maine. He passed peacefully in the loving presence of his wife and children on March 9, 2021.

He graduated from Limestone High School in 1952 and was drafted into the United States Army where he served from 1957 to 1959. He married Nancy Finnemore on April 26, 1957. Together they danced, sang, built a camp, studied scripture, traveled, loved God, watched Tigers’ basketball, raised six children and 80+ acres of potatoes.

In addition to farming potatoes, Lloyd also worked for the United States Postal Service at Loring Air Force Base, Easton, and Limestone until his retirement as Limestone Postmaster in 1993 and continued rural delivery after retirement. During his service to the community, he made lifelong friends and mentored many.

A member of the Limestone Rotary, United Parish Church Board, and Superintendent for Advent Cemetery, Lloyd valued the importance of supporting the community and offering leadership. Even working full-time and farming, he could be counted on to chaperone high school overnight trips, attend Bible study, and work stewardship campaigns for the church.

Anyone who met him knew the strength of his handshake, faith, opinions, love of family, and pursuit of justice. If it were possible for one person to eliminate discrimination and enact justice for all, he certainly would have. He was generous, kind, and a strong advocate for under-represented individuals. He was inordinately proud of his children and grandchildren, especially when they stood up for or cared for others.

Lloyd was predeceased by his parents; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Smith McLaughlin; sisters, Nathalie McLaughlin and Camila Lee Roix. He is survived by his wife, Nancy McLaughlin of Fort Fairfield; brother and sister-in-law, R.H. and Lorraine McLaughlin of Eddington; sister and brother-in-law, Christina and Bill Latham of Mt. Vernon; his children and their spouses, Vaughn McLaughlin and Vicki King, George and Tammie McLaughlin, all of Fort Fairfield, Martha and Drew Hadley of Loveland, OH, Jason McLaughlin and Robin Grant of Gig Harbor, WA, Kent McLaughlin and Lisa Simko of Mariaville, and Meg and Brad Hegemann of Presque Isle. Beloved grandchildren include James and Amanda McLaughlin, Brittany and Brian Cusick, Brendan and Kaitlyn McLaughlin, Christie King Rosado, Randy King, Mitchell and Nathan McLaughlin, Sean, Megan, and Jennifer Hadley, Tyler and Jonathan McLaughlin, Michael, Shane, and Rose McLaughlin, Aaron and Krystal Gagne, Emma, Zachary, and Grace Hegemann. Seventeen children were blessed to have him as their great grandfather, Cammi King, Graedon and Jameson Rosado, Sarah, Aubrey, and Mattie McLaughlin, Meredith, Lenora and Oakley Cusick, Bailey and Mason McLaughlin, Jaxyn McLaughlin, Mason, Brian and Deacon King, Dominic and Nova Gagne.

Friends may call between 2:00 to 3:00 p.m., Saturday March 13, 2021 at United Parish Church, 4 Church Street, Fort Fairfield. The family asks that everyone wear a mask and follow distancing guidelines. A celebration will be held in the summer when we can all gather, linger, sing and laugh safely.

In honor of Dad, dance with your spouse, plant a garden to share the produce with your neighbors and take a child to church. He requested memorial donations to the United Parish Church, P.O. Box 407, Fort Fairfield, Maine 04742, “so young people may come to know God through Jesus Christ.” Arrangements have been entrusted to the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield.
