Limestone & Caswell - Simon J. Bernier, 92, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday evening September 22, 2020 at his Limestone home. He was born August 31, 1928 in Caswell, the son of Francis and Virginia (Curless) Bernier.

He attended school in Caswell and was a communicant at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Hamlin. He was married to Idolande M. (Beaulieu) Bernier on May 15, 1945. Simon retired from Maine Department of Transportation after 36 years, was employed at Loring AFB in their snow removal department, and also worked with farmers in the area. He was an avid hunter and fisherman throughout his years, and was a member of the Limestone Knights of Columbus Council Number 2851.

He is survived by his long time companion, Beatrice Spinney of Limestone; one son, Brent Bernier and his wife Cindy of Caribou; two daughters, Beverly and Conrad Edgecomb of Vermilion, South Dakota; and Peggy and George Burgoyne of Bangor; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Mitchell and Gaye Bernier of Limestone, Stewart and Rowena Bernier of Weatogue, CT, Vincent and Kathy Bernier of Pompano Beach, FL, and Conrad and Louise Bernier of Plymouth, MA; and one sister, Lucille Bell of Limestone; four grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Idolande M. (Beaulieu) Bernier; two brothers, James and Herman Bernier; two sisters, Geraldine Bicknell and Linda Cross; a daughter-in-law, Linda Labbe Bernier.

Due to the current Covid-19 restrictions on gatherings, calling hours will be private, however friends are invited to join the family for a graveside service on Friday, September 25, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at St Louis Catholic Cemetery, Limestone. Those who wish may contribute in memory of Mr. Bernier to the Knights of Columbus Council Number 2851, c/o the Financial Council, 16 Leighton Avenue, Limestone, Maine 04750. Envelopes will be available at the service. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield.
