Fort Fairfield – Gerald P. “Jerry” Monahan, 74, husband of the late Lena (Francis) Monahan, passed away Wednesday afternoon, August 12, 2020 at a Presque Isle hospice facility, following a period of declining health. He was born July 9, 1946 in Presque Isle, the son of Peter and Verna (West) Monahan.

Jerry attended Presque Isle schools and was married to Lena Francis on March 27, 1965. Jerry was employed in the trucking industry for many years, and enjoyed fishing and camping throughout the North Maine Woods. He truly loved his family and was the “Best Granddad Ever!”.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Monahan was predeceased by his wife Lena on August 29, 1998; one brother, Stephen Monahan; one sister, Kathy Glidden; one granddaughter, LaShauna Monahan. He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Jerry Lee and Jennifer Monahan of Freeport; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sheila and Arron McCormack of Mapleton, Lisa and John Henderson of Fort Fairfield; one brother and sister-in-law, Eugene and Patricia Monahan of Brewer; one sister and brother-in-law, Connie and Otis Clair of Sonora, CA; four grandchildren including two special grandsons with whom he shared a special bond, Michael Henderson of Fort Fairfield, Adam Murphy of Mapleton, Ciara Campbell of Presque Isle, Emily Monahan of Georgia; four great grandchildren, Remington and Weston Farley of Presque Isle, Lena and Gavin Murphy of Mapleton; several nieces and nephews .

In keeping with Jerry’s wishes, there will be no services. Interment will take place at Fairmount Cemetery, Presque Isle. Those who wish may contribute in Jerry’s memory to the National Federation of the Blind, 200 East Wells Street, at Jernigan Place, Baltimore, MD 21230 or online at www.nfb.org .
