Obituary for Leona Marie Deveau (Cook)

Leona Marie Deveau (Cook)
LEONA MARIE DEVEAU
MAPLETON

Mapleton - Leona Marie Deveau, age 84, passed away June 24, 2020 after a prolonged battle with cancer. Though her body failed her, her heart held on longer than any could have predicted for her family that she loved. Leona was born March 18, 1936 to Mildora and H.W. Beacher Cook in Presque Isle.

Leona fell in love and married Keith K. Deveau on April 2 1952 and together they raised their family. In and out of foster homes as a child Leona did not have a solid family model but grew herself into the best Mom any child could ever ask for. She was truly the heart and soul of her family and was able to make all those she loved feel special. Her caring, compassionate, loving, and sincere nature was in everything she did.

Leona worked off and on outside the home over the years but being a loving and devoted at home Mother and Wife and focusing on her family was always her top priority. She excelled at both and provided a loving example for her children, grandchildren, and all those she loved. Leona loved to read, sew, crochet, and play games and build puzzles, but sadly the last years of her life she was unable to enjoy many of her hobbies.

Leona is survived by her husband Keith (whom she always called Sonny) of Caribou; a sister, Ruth Smith of Brewer; her children and their spouses, Keith E and Cheryl Deveau of Warwick, Rhode Island, Donna and Larry Easler of Caribou, Brenda and William Rand of Yukon OK, Elizabeth and Thomas Parker of Edmond OK. Leona also left behind 21 grandchildren, 49 great grandchildren and 14 great great grandchildren along with many other extended family members and friends.

Leona was preceded in death by her parents, Mildora and H.W. Beacher Cook, 2 daughters, Sophie M. Wortman and Barbara A. Deveau; 2 sons, John K Deveau Sr. and Scotty D. Deveau; a sister, Constance; a brother, Beacher Cook Jr.; 3 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Leona was her families Angel on earth and will now and forever be their Angel in heaven always watching over all the ones she loved.

Friends may call Sunday July 5, 2020 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield, where a memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Mark Babin officiating. The family requests that young children please be omitted. Those who wish may contribute in memory of Mrs. Deveau to Northern Light Home Health and Hospice, (Hospice of Aroostook) 18 Green Hill Drive, Presque Isle, Maine 04769.
