Fort Fairfield – Mary R. Twitchell, 74, passed away Monday morning, May 25, 2020 at a Mars Hill nursing facility, following a brief illness. She was born December 16, 1945 in Greenville, the daughter of Roland and Ruth (Markey) Lavigne.

She was a graduate of the Greenville High School, was employed at Hatherway’s Shirt Company, Waterville, and then went on to do what she truly loved, cooking. She had been employed as a cook for many local businesses including, Squaw Mountain, Leisure Life, and the Greenville High School. She was co-owner of Piston Farm and Mike and Maude’s Restaurant, Fort Fairfield, and even published her own cookbook, Mainley Sweets.

In addition to her parents, Mary was predeceased by the two loves of her life, Merle Ward and Kenneth Twitchell; and one nephew, Guy Lavigne. She is survived by two brothers, Robert Lavigne and his wife Sharon, George Lavigne; one sister, Therma Mitchell and her husband Randy; three stepsons, Pastor Greg Twitchell and his wife Missie, Ben Twitchell, Dana Mathews and his wife Mary; stepdaughter, Melissa Smith hand her husband Glen; many nieces, nephews step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren. Mary also leaves behind dear friends, Lee and Linda Langley of Fort Fairfield.

The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to the doctors and staff of the Northern Light A.R. Gould Hospital, Presque Isle and the Mars Hill Skilled Unit for the care given to Mary. A Celebration of Mary’s Life will take place at a later date. Those who wish may contribute in memory of Mary to the Central Aroostook Humane Society, 26 Cross Street, Presque Isle, Maine 04769.
