FORT FAIRFIELD

FORT FAIRFIELD - Norman Harold Grant, 81, passed away peacefully Saturday May 23, 2020 at the Aroostook House of Comfort in Presque Isle after a long illness. He was born March 11,1939 in Fort Fairfield, the son of the late Harold and Margaret (Plourde) Grant.

Norman “Norm” was a graduate of Fort Fairfield High School class of 1957 and also studied at the University of Maine at Orono. Norm was a lifelong resident of Fort Fairfield and raised on the family’s potato farm where he lived until his passing. He married Elaine M. (Holland) Grant on June 23, 1962. He raised potatoes for several years before starting N.H. Grant Potato Co., Inc. where he spent more than 35 years selling potatoes for farmers in Aroostook County. He also started Grant Realty later in his career, selling real estate until his retirement in 2013. He was a communicant of Parish of the Precious Blood, St. Denis Catholic Church in Fort Fairfield and served on the Maine Potato Board, the Fort Fairfield Cemetery Corporation and the Fort Fairfield school board.

Norm was predeceased by his parents, his wife of 48 years Elaine Grant and two brothers Paul Grant and Philip Grant. He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl and Mark Verrill of Carmel and Lynne and Rick Searles of Rollinsford, NH; one son and daughter-in-law, Andy and Kara Grant of Sidney; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Carolyn and Peter Campbell of Caribou, Barbara and Roy Carter of East Millinocket, Anna and Peter Cyr of Mechanicsville, VA, a special aunt Paula Plourde of Fort Fairfield, six grandchildren, Ashley Clark of Bangor, Kevin Clark of Fort Fairfield, Kristi Ericson of Abington, MA, Maranda Temir of Portsmouth, NH, Mitchell and Parker Grant, both of Sidney; two great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

In consideration of current restrictions on gatherings and the health of family and friends, services will be private to the family and held at a later date.
