Fort Fairfield – Truman L. Chapman, 86, husband of the late Shirley D. (Chambers) Chapman, Friday evening, May 22, 2020 at his Fort Fairfield home, following a period of declining health. He was born October 13, 1933 in Caribou, the son of Royce M. and Fannie J. (Henderson) Chapman.

He attended local schools and was a veteran of the United States Army serving from 1956 to 1959 with the Airborne Artillery and was stationed in Germany. He was married to Shirley D. Chambers on November 25, 1961 and had been employed by several area businesses including the S. Nightingale Company, Fort Fairfield for 14 years, and the J. M. Huber Corp., Easton for over ten years, retiring in 1993. Truman was a former member of the Fort Fairfield Rifle and Pistol Club. He enjoyed spending time with his family, was an avid ATV enthusiast, and loved to spend his time woodcarving.

In addition to his parents, Truman was predeceased by his wife, Shirley D. Chapman in 1993; two sisters, Dorothy Chapman infant, and Joann Adolphsen. He is survived by two sons, Ernest J. Chapman, Timothy T. Chapman; daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie S. and Stephen Mowbray, all of Fort Fairfield; one brother and sister-in-law, Ellery M. and Peggy Chapman of Torrance, CA; three sisters, Rose Marie Cox of Walton, Kentucky, Patricia LeMaster of Cypress, CA, Lorraine DeWitt of Presque Isle; five grandchildren, Melanie O. Mowbray, Joshua S. Mowbray, Dustin T., Kasidie J., and Kelsie E. Chapman; two great grandchildren, Elliot T. Knox and Gracelyn E. Knox; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Due to the current restrictions on gatherings, services will be private. Interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. Those who wish may contribute in memory of Mr. Chapman to the charity or organization of one’s choice.
