RUBY M. LEIGHTON
LIMESTONE

Limestone – Ruby M. Leighton, 88, wife of the late Ralph E. Leighton, passed away Monday February 3, 2020 at her Limestone home, following a period of declining health. She was born January 23, 1932 in St. John, New Brunswick, the daughter of Harry and Mayme (Gallagher) Saunders.

Ruby attended school in Grand Falls, New Brunswick and was married to Ralph E. Leighton on May 14, 1947. In addition to being a dedicated homemaker, Ruby had been employed at the Caswell School for a period of time and later worked at MEACON in Caribou. Ruby was a dedicated member of the Limestone United Methodist Church, and the Limestone-Caswell Historical Society. She also was an avid reader and supporter of the Robert A. Frost Memorial Library, Limestone. Ruby was proud to be a naturalized United States citizen and was truly proud to be an American, and loved the National Anthem. She was an exceptional mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, and a wonderful role model and caregiver to many many foster children over the years.

In addition to her parents, Ruby was predeceased by her husband Ralph on January 15, 1977; one brother, Bob Saunders; one sister, Marie Leighton. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Ralph and Dianne Leighton of Caswell; one daughter and son-in-law, Rea and Andy Caldwell of Limestone; two brothers, Donald Saunders and his wife Mary of Limestone, Philip Saunders of Ottawa, Ontario; a sister-in-law, Doreen Saunders of Kingston, Ontario; three grandchildren, Chad Leighton of Caswell, Jessie Caldwell and his companion Chelsea of Houlton, Leah Caldwell and her companion Jon of Limestone; two great grandchildren, Emily LaPointe and Charlotte Tibbert, both of Limestone; several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call Monday February 10, 2020 from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. at the Limestone United Methodist Church, Main Street Limestone, where a funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Cheryl Stratton officiating. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will follow in the church reception area. Interment will take place later in the spring at the Advent Cemetery, Limestone. Those who wish may contribute in memory of Ruby to the Advent Cemetery Association, c/o Lloyd McLaughlin, 175 Center Limestone Road, Fort Fairfield, Maine 04742. Envelopes will be available at the church. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield.
