DONALD M. GOUGHAN
CARIBOU

Caribou – Donald M. Goughan, 89, husband of Sarah J. (Carlino) Goughan, passed away Saturday morning, October 19, 2019 at his Caribou residence, following a brief illness. He was born April 13, 1930 in Philadelphia, PA, the son of Alfred M. and Katherine (Sheehan) Goughan.

Donald was a graduate of the Philadelphia, PA school system and went on to further his education at Penn State University, earning a bachelors degree in agriculture. He was married to Sarah Jane Carlino on November 15, 1952 and served his country with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, stationed in Alaska. Donald had been a resident of Fort Fairfield for a number of years where he was employed at the A&P Processing Plant as a potato buyer and broker, and also worked in the same capacity at H.A. Pollack Potato Company, Fort Fairfield. He later became a potato farmer during the 1970’s and early 1980’s in the Caribou area prior to moving to Meza, AZ for twenty years where he was employed as a handyman. Donald returned to Caribou and spent his winters in The Villages, Florida for the past 12 years. He attended the Family Christian Center in Presque Isle and was co-founder of the Helen P. Knight School in Caribou.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Goughan was predeceased by one daughter, Jayne Goughan on May 24, 2016; one brother, Barry Goughan. He is survived by his wife of nearly 67 years, Sarah J. Goughan of Caribou; one daughter and son-in-law, Lillian and Lionel Quellette Jr. of Caribou; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Gloria Goughan of Caribou, Alfred “Chip” and Teresa Goughan of Corinth, TX; five grandchildren and spouses, Aaron Goughan of Dallas, TX, Stephen Goughan of Corinth, TX, Kelli and Jeremiah Michaud, Kristi Goughan and partner Ellen Harmon, Katie and Jason Shannon, all of Caribou; three great grandchildren, Evan, Reagan and Isiah Michaud, all of Caribou. He also leaves behind a sister-in-law, Lois Goughan of Boston, MA; as well as several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Donald’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may contribute in memory of Donald to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
