Presque Isle - Alfred C. Giberson, a well-known Aroostook County businessman and long-time resident of Presque Isle, passed away April 28, 2019, at a Presque Isle hospice facility following a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis. He was 81 years old. Born August 22, 1937, in Fort Fairfield to Alfred and Elizabeth (Merrithew) Giberson.

Alfred grew up in Fort Fairfield, graduated from high school there and married his high school sweetheart, Mary E. (Shaw) Giberson in 1955. They moved to Presque Isle in the early 1960s where they made their home and raised their two children, Steven and Jeannie. Alfred joined MetLife in the mid-1960s and served with them as an agent, financial planner and agent emeritus until his retirement in 2017. The recipient of numerous awards and accolades from MetLife, he was a much trusted and beloved advisor to his many clients and mentor to his colleagues. He was a past president of the National Association of Insurance & Financial Advisors – Maine Chapter, National Association of Life Underwriters. A long-time member of Grant Memorial United Methodist Church, Presque Isle, where he served on its board, worked with the youth and with many other committees and activities over the years. He was also an active member of the Presque Isle Rotary Club, a tireless worker for United Way of Aroostook as well as a number of other local philanthropic activities. A longtime Mason, he was Past Master of the former Eastern Frontier Masonic Lodge, Fort Fairfield, Past Master of Trinity Lodge No. 130 AF and AM, Presque Isle, and also a member of the Scottish Rite, Vallies of Bangor and Presque Isle. He was also an active member of the Anah Temple Shrine and the Aroostook Shrine Club and played around Maine and New Brunswick in its Oriental Band. A member of the Presque Isle Country Club, Alfred loved his golf, playing throughout the county with a number of groups. He especially loved traveling south to join his son Steve in a round or two. Alfred’s passing leaves a tremendous void in his community, his church and most of all in his immediate and extended family and friends.

He leaves behind his beloved wife of 63 years, Mary of Presque Isle; his son Steven and wife Renee of Topsham; daughter Jeannie Giberson and husband Cliff Young of North Yarmouth; grandson Joseph Giberson, granddaughter Ashley and husband Brian Swift all of Richmond; granddaughter Molly Young of Natick, MA; great granddaughter Aubrey Swift of Richmond; sister Marilla Cushman and husband George of Springfield, VA; as well as brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, and cousins. To his family, Alfred was “the Prince of Presque Isle.” He never met a stranger and everyone was his friend, however his greatest source of pride was his family.

Friends may call Wednesday May 1, 2019 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield, where a Masonic memorial service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. by the officers of the Trinity Lodge No. 130 AF & AM. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday May 2, 2019 at the Grant Memorial United Methodist Church, 79 Fleetwood Street, Presque Isle with Rev. Chris Dare officiating. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held in the church reception area immediately following the service. Interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Alfred requested donations be made to the Aroostook House of Comfort, P.O.
