Obituary for Cecil A. Estey

FORT FAIRFIELD

Fort Fairfield – Cecil A. Estey, 91, died March 5, 2019 at a Caribou nursing facility. He was born August 3, 1927 in Fort Fairfield to James A. and Margaret (McNeil) Estey and attended Fort Fairfield schools.

He worked at Jenkins Garage part time then landed a job at Peterson’s Motor Mart, Fort Fairfield where he worked until 1945 when he was drafted into the US Army. Upon his return from military service he resumed his employment at Peterson’s. In addition, Cecil also became a police officer for the Town of Fort Fairfield in 1950. In 1953 he married Margaret (Marge White) Waldron and became the father to her two sons Robert D. (Danny) and William P. (Billy) Waldron. In the early 1950’s he joined the Fort Fairfield Fire Department where he reached the position of Fire Chief before retiring to assume a position at the Loring AFB Fire Department as Station Captain in 1974. In 1960 he opened his own laundry center in Fort Fairfield, building a new building in 1968. This venture continued until 1978. During this time Cecil also became a Deputy Sheriff for Aroostook County under Sheriff Darrell Crandall Sr. where he served for 15 years. In 1990 Cecil retired from the LAFB Fire Department but continued to work as a service technician for Maytag (MacGray) where he serviced machines throughout Aroostook County for 47 years (1960-2007). At the age of 80 he finally retired. He was an active member of the American Legion, Walter Lovely Post # 27, Fort Fairfield for over 25 years, serving as Commander for several years as well as Chaplain for several terms.

Cecil was predeceased by his parents, his son Billy in 1984, his loving wife Marge in 1998 and his son Danny in 2017. He was also predeceased by his brothers, Vincent Randolph and James R. Estey; and sisters, Inez Estey Doughty, Alda Estey Butler and baby sister Avis Estey. Cecil is survived by his twin sister, Cecilia Estey Driscoll of Fort Fairfield; and his son, Scott Estey of Chelmsford, MA. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren; special friends, Mary Breanne and Dustin Hall; and his special four-legged companion Teddy. Friends may call Friday March 8, 2019 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield. The funeral service will be conducted Saturday March 9, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Fr. Nehru Stephen Savarayia officiating. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held at the VFW Paul Lockhart Post # 6187, Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield following the service.
