PRESQUE ISLE, MAINE

Presque Isle – Shirley J. Thaxter, 86, passed away Thursday morning, May 10, 2018 at a Mars Hill healthcare facility, following a brief illness. She was born September 7, 1931 in Jamestown, ND, the daughter of Mel and Emily (Burkhardt) Egstrom.

She was a graduate of the Jamestown, ND School System and worked as a professional Girl Scout, having been affiliated with Girl Scouts of America for many years. She was a member of the S.A.G.E. Seniors Group, Presque Isle, a former member of the Salvation Army of Maine Board of Directors, and the Baxter State Park Board of Directors. She attended the State Road Advent Christian Church, Mapleton.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Thaxter was predeceased by one son, Jack Burke. She is survived by one son, Brian Burke of Kansas City; two daughters and sons-in-law, Norma and Jerry O’Keefe of Limestone, Jean and Brad Kreiser of Machesney Park, IL; one brother and sister-in-law, Glenn and Donna Egstrom of Santa Monica, Ca; seven grandchildren, Keelin Kistner, Kevin O’Keefe, Craig and Brett Kreiser, Cali, Ainsley and Bry Ann Burke; six great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Shirley’s family wishes to extend their sincere and heartfelt appreciation to T.A.M.C. and the Mars Hill Health Center for the wonderful care given to Shirley during her illness. They also ask that those who knew Shirley to pause, and take a moment and remember fond memories of her. Those who wish may contribute in her memory to the charity or organization of one’s choice.
