Easton – Elsie M. (Paul) Kearney, 75, wife of the late Richard P. Kearney, passed away peacefully Thursday morning March 8, 2018 at the home of her daughter Carol in Indian Township. She was born September 7, 1942 at Peter Dana Point, the daughter of Abner and Lena (Sockabasin) Paul.

The family relocated to Fort Fairfield when Elsie was a child where she attended local schools and was married to Richard P. Kearney on July 5, 1958. Besides being a hardworking and dedicated homemaker, Elsie also assisted local farmers during the planting and harvest seasons for a number of years. Elsie enjoyed arts and crafts, knitting, and crocheting mostly for children and babies, quilting, making wonderful wedding cakes and floral arrangements and playing bingo. Elsie was extremely proud of her First Native Ancestry, an enrolled member of Passamaquoddy Tribe of Indian Township (Maine) and Tobique First Nation (Canada). She was an active member of the Presque Isle Micmac Elder’s Group.

In addition to her parents, Elsie was predeceased by her son Paul R. Kearney on February 24, 2006; her husband Richard P. Kearney on February 2, 2015; one brother Jimmy Polchies; one sister Hazel Perley. She is survived by three daughters, Carol Francis and her fiancé Robert Newell of Indian Township, Rose Trotter of Presque Isle, Vicki Kearney and her fiance Donald Lord of Fort Fairfield; five brothers, Louis Polchies Sr. and his wife Linda, Charles Polches, Christopher Polches and his wife Denise, Billy Sockabasin, all of Indian Township; Roger Paul, and his companion Paula of Hampton; five sisters, Linda Steeves and her husband Archie, Mae Sabattus, all of Indian Township, Elizabeth Gouin of Old Town, Jennifer Sockabasin and her husband Joe, Nancy Polches and her companion Sylvia Sockabasin, all of Indian Township; ten grandchildren Lisa Tompkins and her husband Sam of Easton, T.J. Hafford and his companion Renee of Lewiston, William Hafford of Lewiston, Jeremy Trotter, and his wife Mandy of Belfast, Angie Nickerson and her companion Brad Drost of Calais, Eyan Francis of Indian Township, James Kearney, Timothy Rooney Alicia Nickerson, all of Easton, Casey Lee Smith of Lexington, Virginia. James, there is a special place in heaven for all you have done for your gram!; one brother-in-law, Elmer Perley of Tobique First Nation, New Brunswick. Elsie also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, including a special nephew Ralph Doten and his wife Wanda of Indian Township who Elise raised as her own, other special nieces and nephews, who called her Gram include; Nicolas Paul and his wife Waupi of Presque Isle, Celena Greenier and her husband Josh of Mapleton, William Paul of Wiscasset; and many great grandchildren and extended family members. She adored her special caretakers Abbey, Melissa and Cheryl. She wants to remember her special friends, Isabel, Yvonne, Diane, Mary, Eva and Martina.

Friends may call Monday March 12, 2018 from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield, where the funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Larry Sullivan officiating. Spring interment will take place at the Estes Park Cemetery, Easton. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held after the service at the VFW Paul Lockhart Post Number 6187, Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield. Those who wish may contribute in Elsie memory to the Aroostook House of Comfort, P.O. Box 867, Presque Isle, Maine 04769. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
