Fort Fairfield & Ocala, FL – Mona M. Watson, 86, wife of Donald “Jack” Watson, passed away Tuesday evening, February 6, 2018 at an Ocala, FL hospice facility. She was born June 16, 1931 in Fort Fairfield, the daughter of Asa T. and Margaret L. (Dorsey) Gallupe.

She was a graduate of the Fort Fairfield High School, Class of 1949. She furthered her education at the University of Maine at Presque Isle receiving a Bachelors of Education Degree in 1974 and also received her Masters Degree from the University of Maine at Orono in 1980. Mona was employed as an educator with the Fort Fairfield School Department for eighteen years, retiring in 1991. She was married to Donald “Jack” Watson on September 6, 1949 and was a communicant of the Parish of the Precious Blood, St. Denis Catholic Church, Fort Fairfield, as well as St. Jude’s Catholic Church, Ocala, FL. She had most recently been attending the United Parish Church, Fort Fairfield. Mona was a member and past Regent of the Daughters of Isabella, Santa Maria Circle No. 427, Fort Fairfield, past president of the Marion Oakes Women’s Club, and the Philomethian Club. She was a member at large of the Preceptor Gama and Beta Sigma Phi Sororities, and also was a member of the National Teacher’s Association as well as the Maine Retired Teacher’s Association. Mona was an avid bridge player and a member of the American Contract Bridge League and achieved Life Master in 2002.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Watson was predeceased by one son John Watson; one brother Tom Gallupe; one sister Mary Bishop. She is survived by her husband of sixty-eight years Jack Watson of Fort Fairfield and Ocala, FL; two sons, Michael A. Watson of Ocala, FL, Donald P. Watson and his wife Christine of Clermont, FL; one daughter Mary Margaret Watson of Fort Fairfield; one brother Gary W. Gallupe of Sarasota, FL; one sister Carol Clair and her husband Jerome of California; four grandchildren, Sarah Watson of Avon, CT, Maggie Watson of Juno, Alaska, Chief Petty Officer Danny Howard of Norfolk, VA, Lori Shee of Jacksonville, FL; six great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at the United Parish Church, 4 Church Street, Fort Fairfield, where the memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Meg Hegmann officiating. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will follow the service in the church reception area. Interment will take place following the reception at Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. Those who wish may contribute in memory of Mona to the Fort Fairfield Alumni Association, P.O.
