Fort Fairfield – Gideon W. Davenport, 90, husband of Jessie E. (Dean) Davenport, passed away Monday morning, November 13, 2017 at his Fort Fairfield home, following an extended illness. He was born April 18, 1927 in Fort Fairfield, the son of John and Alice (McCarthy) Davenport.

Gideon served his country with the United States Marine Corp during World War II and was married to Jessie E. Dean on April 30, 1947. He was a member of the VFW Paul Lockhart Post Number 6187, Fort Fairfield, and was employed in the potato farming industry for many years.

In addition to his parents, Gideon was predeceased by one son, Michael Dean; one daughter, Donna Marie Davenport; five brothers, John Jr., Jasper, Daniel, Russell and Talford Davenport; three sisters, Annie Whitmore, Maxine McCarthy and Della Paradis. He is survived by his wife of seventy years, Jessie of Fort Fairfield; two sons, Randie Davenport of Fort Fairfield, Jeffrey Dean of Wells; one daughter and son-in-law, Donella D. and William Hamel of Ashland; three sisters, Hazel Napoleon and her husband Louis of Portland, Ethel McLaughlin of Windham, CT, Alice Kinney of Plaster Rock, New Brunswick; eight grandchildren; five very special great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

In keeping with Gideon’s wishes, there will be no service at this time. Those who wish may contribute in memory of Mr. Davenport to Hospice of Aroostook, 14 Access Highway, Caribou, Maine 04736. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield.
