Fort Fairfield – Leonce J. Berube, 67, husband of the late Norma V. (Thibodeau) Berube, passed away Friday evening, August 25, 2017 at a Mars Hill nursing facility, following a long, hard struggle with COPD and lung cancer.

He was born May 5, 1950 in Baker Brook, New Brunswick, the son of Joseph and Leona (Levesque) Berube. He attended school in Aroostook, New Brunswick, and resided in Connecticut for a number of years where he worked as a metal fabricator in modular home construction and also worked as dental lab technician.

In addition to his parents, Leonce was predeceased by his beloved wife Norma; one brother, Gerald Berube Sr.; three sisters, Mary Ann Berube, Avis Berube Ledden, Nicole Berube Sprague. He is survived by four sisters, Leona Bowmaster of Centreville, New Brunswick, Rose Annette Courish of New Marilyn, New Brunswick, Rolande Hayden and her husband Ken of Swansboro, NC, Yvonne Brooker and her husband Ken of Noridgewock; three brothers, Gerard Berube of Caribou, Richard Berube and his wife Jancie of Swanee, GA, Reno Berube of Presque Isle; one stepdaughter Janice O’Neal and her husband Tom; two step-grandchildren, Brian and Jessica, all of Calais; two step-great grandchildren, Ardin and Daphne; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special friend, June O’Dell of Fort Fairfield. Leonce’s family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to the doctors and staff of the Mars Hill Nursing Home for the wonderful care given to him during his stay.

Friends may call Tuesday, August 29, 2017 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at the Parish of the Precious Blood, St. Denis Catholic Church, 147 Main Street, Fort Fairfield. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will take place after the Mass at the VFW Paul Lockhart Post Number 6187, Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield. Private interment will take place at the St. Denis Catholic Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. Those who wish may contribute in memory of Leonce to the American Lung Association in Maine, 122 State Street, Augusta, Maine 04330. Envelopes will be available at both the funeral home and church.
