Fort Fairfield – Talford P. Davenport, 82, husband of the late Rosaline M. “Rose” Davenport, passed away unexpectedly, Friday morning, May 12, 2017 at his Fort Fairfield home. He was born April 12, 1935 in Caribou, the son of John Sr. and Alice (McCarthy) Davenport.

He attended Fort Fairfield schools and served in the Maine National Guard for a number of years. He was married to Rosaline “Rose” Thibodeau on April 23, 1960. Talford had been employed by several area farmers over the years but spent most of his working life at Gulliver’s Service Station in Fort Fairfield where he had worked for over 40 years. He enjoyed fishing, working around his home and could often be seen taking a leisurely drive around the Fort Fairfield area.

In addition to his parents, Talford was predeceased by his wife Rose on September 16, 2011; four brothers, Russell, John Jr., Jasper and Daniel Davenport; three sisters, Annie Whitmore, Maxine McCarthy and Della Paradis.

He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Jeffrey and Sherrie Davenport of Southbridge, MA, Mark and Andrea Davenport of Gorham; two daughters, Robin Davenport and Lisa Davenport, both of Fort Fairfield; three grandchildren, Abigail LeSaffre and her husband Travis of Waltham, MA, Whitney Davenport, of Fort Fairfield, Luke Davenport of Gorham; one brother and sister-in-law, Gideon W. and Jessie Davenport of Fort Fairfield; three sisters, Hazel Napolien and her husband Louie of Portland, Sally McLaughlin of Windham, CT, Alice Kinney of Plaster Rock, New Brunswick. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews including two special nephews, Lyman Thibodeau of South Berwick, and Eric Daveport of Mapleton.

In keeping with Talford's wishes, calling hours will be private for the family. A graveside service will be conducted Wednesday May 17, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. at the Union Cemetery, Fort Fairfield with the Rev. Mark Babin officiating. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held after the service at the VFW Paul Lockhart Post Number 6187, 130 Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may contribute in memory of Talford to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 10 Brookline Place West, 6th Floor, Brookline, MA 02445 or online donations at www.danafarber.org Envelopes will be available at the service.
