Obituary for Lawrence H. Gallop

Fort Fairfield – Lawrence H. Gallop, 88, passed away Saturday afternoon, April 15, 2017 at his Fort Fairfield home, following a brief illness. He was born October 13, 1928 in Thomaston, CT, the son of Harold G. and Dortha J. (Wright) Gallop.

He served his country with the United States Navy from 1951 to 1955, stationed at New London, CT and Norfolk, VA. Lawrence was a life member of the VFW Paul Lockhart Post Number 6187, Fort Fairfield, the Korean War Veterans Association Chapter 292, Presque Isle, the American Legion Henry B. Pratt Post Number 15, Caribou. He also was a Master Mason affiliated with Trinity Masonic Lodge Number 130 AF & AM, Presque Isle, where he served in several capacities, was also a member of the Scottish Rite Lodge of Perfection, Valley of Bangor, the Maine Consistory 32nd Degree of Freemasonry, Valley of Portland, and Valley of Presque Isle, the Anah Temple Shrine, the Aroostook Shrine Club, and the Anah Temple Oriental Band. Lawrence had been employed in several factories in Connecticut and Maine. He had also been employed at the A & P and later Interstate Foods Processing Plant in Fort Fairfield for 18 years in the maintenance department. He also worked at the former Loring Air Force Base in their steam heat and electrical generation plants on the night shift and operated the family farm during the day, retiring in 1991.

In addition to parents, Lawrence was predeceased by his first wife and mother of their nine children, Rebecca (Cyr) Gallop on June 5, 1990; his second wife of fifteen years, Noreen (Hoyt) Gallop; his companion of three years, Geraldine J. Michaud on August 22, 2010; one grandson, Shane Gallop; one great granddaughter, Alana Nelson; one brother, Wallace G. Gallop; one sister Audrey Neeley. He is survived by two sons, Michael L. Gallop and his companion Amanda Clark of Leesburg, FL., Steven Gallop and his wife Patricia of Mars Hill; seven daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela and Ross Hubbard of Fort Fairfield, Dortha and David Grivois of Presque Isle, Debra and Doug Tutin of Eustis, FL, Karen and Craig Maynard of Dedham, Katherine and William Hendry of Fruitland Park, FL, Valerie and David McDaniel of Colorado Springs, CO, Lisa and Ricky Pelkey of Caribou. He also leaves behind a very special, loving, caring and supportive lady, his companion Alemeda “Mede” Sparrow of Woodstock, New Brunswick; fourteen grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call Wednesday April 19, 2017 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield, where an evening Masonic Memorial service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. by the officers and members of the Presque Isle Trinity Masonic Lodge Number 130 AF & AM. A graveside service with military honors will be conducted Monday, June 5, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield with the Rev. Mark Babin officiating. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held after the service at the V.F.W. Paul Lockhart Post Number 6187, Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may contribute in memory of Mr. Gallop to the Shriner’s Hospitals for Children, 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
